This is a texture update for the Boston Lighthouse.
This asset is seasonal.
This version has an auxiliary light.
The Boston Lighthouse is a colonial-era white rubble, brick and mortar lighthouse that has five black steel bands wrapped around it. It sits on Little Brewster Island and helps guide ships to Boston Harbor. It has an attached structure that also serves as the entrance. The original lighthouse that stood here predated the American Revolution. The Boston Light Station is the oldest in American History (Though the oldest standing lighthouse is in Sandy Hook, NJ). The original Boston lighthouse was ordered to be burned down on several occasions during the American Revolution to make it harder for British troops to navigate in that area. The original lighthouse was destroyed by British troops as they retreated. The current structure was constructed in 1783 and it still stands today. The first light station in America, it bacame the last one to be automated in 1999. The light station is the only one in America that still has an on-duty lighthouse keeper who is employed by the U.S. Coast Guard. Unusual for American lighthouses, the light of the Boston Lighthouse rotates counter-clockwise, rather than clockwise. Also unusual is how the light operates and rotates 24-7, rather than turning off during the day. The lighthouse is equipped with a second-order Fresnel Lens that flashes white every 10 seconds. In foggy weather, a fog horn gives off one blast every 30 seconds. There is an auxiliary light mounted outside on the walkway below the lantern room. That's used as a backup in case both the primary and secondary 1000-watt bulbs fail before the Coast Guard can get to the lighthouse to replace them. It also flashes using the same characteristic, but only if the fresnel lens fails to operate.
