SAR Stone Station Porters Room - Peterborough

The Peterborough railways yards where a cross road of the main Broken Hill to Port Pirie rail for Ore, freight and passengers as well as north and south to Quorn and Terowie. From Quorn traffic could continue to Alice Springs or head west via Port Augusta. To support the activity at the station and yard Porters were employed to assist passengers with their luggage and information, cleaning and attendance in carriages.

Peterborough had a dedicated Porters Room established on the southern side of the yard between about midway between the Yardmasters Office/Lamp Room and the Railcar Shed. Immediately to the east of this was a small yard with a plain corrugated fence.

This building was lost, like many others, in the move from Narrow Gauge to Standard Gauge between 1968 and 1970
