DB Class 218

DB's V164 or Class 218 diesel hydraulic locomotives were introduced between 1968 and 1979.

The 218 became the most ubiquitous diesel locomotive in Germany with over 400 units built by manufacturers Krauss-Maffei, Krupp, Mak & Henschel.

Between 1970 and 1971, 8 Class members were experimentally fitted with Krupp gas-turbines; and were re-classified as Class 210.

During 1994, in a second allocation of the Class 210; 12 units received bogie and engine modifications enabling them to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
