VR V class Compound

VR V Class 2-8-0 Compound Steam Locomotive - Broad Gauge.
The V class locomotives were constructed between 1902 and 1903 at the Phoenix Foundry in Ballarat, with the pattern loco being built in 1899 by the Baldwin locomotive works in Philadelphia in the USA.
They were built as Vauclain compound locomotives and were the heaviest locomotives in the Victorian Railways when they entered service. Between 1912 and 1913 were rebuilt as Simple Expansion locomotives.
Untill 1923 the locomotives were numbered between 499-529 using odd numbers only. All locos were out of service by January 1930, with pattern loco 499 (later 215) being the last to go.

This model represents the locos in VR black livery as Vauclain compound locomotives on broad gauge.
