Commonwealth Railways 14.3m - standard gauge flat car Code RG - Between 1959 and 1965, 187 of these flat cars were built by Wiles Engineering in South Australia, Industrial Steels in NSW, and Tomlisons in WA. As built,53 were to be used on the CR narrow gauge line from Maree to Alice Springs (code NRH),and 134 on the Standard Gauge Trans-line (code RG)
Many of the RG wagons were converted to narrow gauge to alliviate a shortage of flats on the line from Maree to Alice Springs. When the new Standard Gauge line was completed from Tarcoola to Alice Springs, these flats were converted to standard gauge.
