VR B Class - W

Victorian Railways B Class Diesel-Electric.
In 1950, VR were looking ahead to a diesel-electric era. Very impressed with the US F7 series, they ordered 26 with double cabs for fast turnaround and Co-Co bogies to allow lighter axle loadings. Clyde Engineering built them, classified ML2. In service from 1952 to current day, the B class is well-loved by railwaymen and railfans alike, some examples running over four million miles. Beginning in 1982, 11 B class were progressively updated with 12-645E3B engines to become the A class.

Engine: EMD 16-567B 1500HP, EMD D27 traction motors, max speed 83mph (134km/h)

This model is based on the Auran S class mesh, provided on the Auran Content Creation Art Source CD. Without the generosity of Auran in making their work available, the B class would never have been built by me. I therefore unreservedly dedicate this locomotive to the Brew Crew, especially Greg Lane, Tony Hilliam and Rob Shaw - and the unnamed graphics slave(s)who did the original S.

It would also have never seen the light of day without assistance from other members of the modelling community. Specifically, James Brook for allowing me to use his MSTS hornsound source. Wulf9 for massaging the MSTS .wav into a Trainz hornsound, and for providing the 16-567C enginesound. Eric Whitmore for the absolutely spot-on enginespec file. And to PhilC, Eldavo, Magicland and John Camp for getting me over the final hurdle of working alphanumbers.

Special thanks to the ARHS Museum at Williamstown for allowing me to climb in, over and under B83 to take hundreds of measurements and photographs.

This is my last model specifically made for Trainz UTC. Apart from reskins, all future models will be TRS-only to take advantage of new features, including a TRS version of the B, due in a few months.
