Brisbane Four Motor Tramcar 400

Four Motor type tramcar built by the Brisbane City Council. A total of 155 FM Tramcars were built between 1938 and 1964.
No 400, built in 1938 was the prototype of this type of tram . Due to its shapr and colour, it was known as the silver bullett .
Trams were built in batches. Each batch would introduce subtle changes to the style of the car i.e. vertical canvas blinds in end doorways were fitted to early built trams.
Later cars had horizontal operating blinds. 400 was the only car to have metal wings attached to each headlight (subsequently removed).
400 to 424 were equipped with 4x40 hp AGE288 motors mounted in trucks built by the B.C.C. based on the Melbourne No.15 truck.
Trolley pole bases were US13 or AGE and utilised the trolley wheel contact method.
No.400 was unique has been preserved to be restored to running order at the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
Later on in its life 400's only variance from the rest of the fleet was it's distinctive end destination boxes. Here 400 is presented in an as built appearance.
