Brisbane Four Motor Tramcar 473

A total of 155 Four Motor type tramcars were built by the Brisbane City Council between 1938 and 1964. Trams were built in batches.
Each batch would introduce subtle changes to the style of the car i.e. sliding doors were fitted to all trams built after 1947.
This tram 473 was originally built as 407, but during a major service was fitted experimentally with sliding doors and passenger bulkhead windows.
It was re-introduced to service as 473 on 30/5/47.Cars were equipped with 4x40 hp AGE247 motors mounted in trucks built by the B.C.C. based on the Melbourne No.15 truck.
Trolley pole bases were Melbourne Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB) type and utilised the trolley wheel contact method.
Here No.473 is presented as it would have appeared when it re-entered service in 1947.
Notice the semi-anticlimber bumper bars (left over from its days as 407) and the extra passenger bulkheads is the centre section.
473 was destroyed in the disastrous Paddington Depot fire on the night of Friday, 28th September in 1962. A total of 65 tramcars were lost including 12 FM's.
