Brisbane Four Motor Tramcar 519

A total of 155 Four Motor type tramcars were built by the Brisbane City Council between 1938 and 1964. Trams were built in batches.
Each batch would introduce subtle changes to the style of the car i.e. in an effort to reduce road noise and provide a smoother ride, cars were equipped with resilient wheels
( rubber sandwiched between main solid wheel and steel tyre ) and helical gears.
Cars fitted with resilient wheels, originally had chrome plated shims on bumper bars with the letter R painted under their fleet numbers.
This model represents numbers between 513 and 532 which where built in 1951 and 1952.
Cars were equipped with 4x40 hp AGE247 motors mounted in trucks built by the B.C.C. based on the Melbourne No.15 truck.
Trolley pole bases were MMTB type and utilised the trolley wheel contact method.
524 onwards were equipped with helical gears, but not all cars had resilient wheels.
Here, this tram is presented with chrome bumper bars and resilient wheels in the way the series would have appeared when built.
Controllers were RC2 remote control versions utilising under car relays for control.
No.519 has been preserved to be restored to running order at the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
