GNER MK4 Mallard (DVT)

GNER Mark 4 Mallard (DVT).

Built by Metro-Cammell in 1988, the MK4 DVT was designed to go with the new MK4 carriages, and Class 91 engines on a newly electrified East Coast Mainline. Originally in BR intercity swallow livery, they became part of the GNER fleet on privatization.

From 2003 as part of project Mallard an upgrade occurred across the fleet, the DVTs received a WiFi dome above the cab.
Named versions
82217 - Off to the Races
82219 - Duke of Edinburugh

Initially 31 were built, although 82221 was destroyed in the Selby rail crash. Originally 82001 carried the Metro-Cammell logo between the front headlights, rather than the Intercity Swallow.
