Blackwood Town is situated at the end of a long secondary route. The route is mainly single track with only a few passing loops so the trains need to keep to a strict timetable. The route is electified to provide all traffic. Aston Junction at the end of the line provides access to the main line. Blackwood also has an oil field which provides limited freight workings.
