PKP SP47-001 MD.W-Wa Odolany

The SP47 diesel locomotive was invented in HCP factory in Poland around 1973. It was supposed to be a powerfull very fast reliable express train locomotive for the most prized trains. In 1975 a prototype was released, followed by another one in 1977. The locomotives had new 16 cylinder 3000hp W2116SSF engines installed. With that power they were supposed to reach a speed of 140kmh. Mass production was never released, since the research on the diesels was cancelled after importing a large group of ST44 diesels from Soviet Union. The 2 existing SP47 diesels survived in express service till the mid 1990s when their engines malfunctioned and they were taken out of service.
