DR BR142 004-2 Depo.Halle

BR142 were a rather experimental idea of a very powerfull freight locomotive based on the typical 5D49 type engine used in regular 131 and 132 diesels. In BR142 the engine received a much stronger turbocharge and reached the final power output of 4000hp. The maximum speed of BR142 was lowered to 100kmh. BR142 used to be the strongest diesel loco used in continental Europe. After Germany reunited some of the 142s were still used by DB, others were sold to private operators, some were modernised, some abandoned.
