The TGV, it's quite a program.

The 8:15 TGV does not suit you? Take the previous one at 7:15. Or the next one at 9:15. There are 13 a day on average, between Paris and Lyon, both ways, and even 18 on Friday from Paris. Great performance.

With the TGV now, Lyon is 2h 40m from Paris; Saint-Etienne at 3h 26m; Geneva at 4h 15m; Grenoble at 4h 11m by express connection to Lyon. You decide on an unforeseen trip? Start early afternoon, you can book up to 5 minutes before departure, in the station itself, and you return in the evening quietly by driving up to 260 km/h.
