Center_Village_Railroad_Bridge

This is a three-span single-track railroad truss bridge that crosses the Susquehanna
River near Harpursville, NY on the former D&H Penn Division. Built in 1908 it is 450 ft long and
features Metal 7-Panel Pin Connected Pratt Through truss construction. The bridge was in daily use until
the final abandonment of the Penn Dividsion in early 1986 by Guiliford and regularly carried 315,000-lb
cars as well as special heavy dimensional loads that included steam turbines from GE which were transported
on GEX 80000 series cars and weighed in at well over one million pounds.

An interesting feature of this bridge is the non-symetrical trusses. The east truss is heavier then the
west truss to accomodate the possibility of adding a second track on the east side. The present east truss
would then become the center truss carrying loads from both tracks. This modification never took place
because it was found that the trusses did not deflect equally under load causing
