Wearmouth Bridge

This unusual bridge is based on the Wearmouth Bridge erected in 1796 crossing the River Wear
south of Newcastle (on Tyne) in northern England. Originally it carried horse drawn carriages and pedestrian traffic.
It underwent major repairs in 1858 and 1859 and was replaced by a steel arch bridge in 1929. This is as originally built.
