This is a United States Navy 14 in Model E railcar mounted gun circa 1919.
Basic Specifications:
Bore diameter 14 inch. Range 24000 yards.
Traverse 1 degree. Elevation 22 degrees.
Barrel recoil 60 inches. Car recoil 11 to 17 feet.
This was originally designed as a permanently mounted coastal defense gun but was adapted for rail use around 1919.
This this a heavy car and should make operational movement interesting as a train with this and its support cars
as the consist would have high priority of movement but be forced to travel relatively slow due to the weight of the car
and the care that must be taken when transporting the ammo and powder bags in the support cars. When set up to fire
it would be located on a gently curving track for lateral aiming. Place a USN idler flat (kuid2:210518:7003:1) at the front
end to accomadate the barrel overhang.
