Founded by William Booth in 1878, The Salvation Army, as well as being a Church, have been of utmost importance to the poor, destitute and disaster-stricken in Britain and abroad. As well as a place of worship, the Citadel is the hub of activity and would house soup kitchens or meat teas for poor children. The SA continues charitable work today.
