Cambridge to Huntingdon 2012
A modern UK electrified semi-urban/rural route from Trumpington (just south of Cambridge), through Cambridge, then branching off the mainline to St Ives and Huntingdon. Based on the actual route - now disused - plus some artistic and practical liberties. The real route is now a guided-busway between Cambridge and St Ives.
Important - I have released this version without a template session as it appears not to need one, so you can create your own session depending on your personal preferences. However, please let me know if you have downloaded this route and it fails to correctly configure any of the active content such as signals, stations, level-crossings or junction controllers. Be careful that the junction controllers are functioning correctly (particularly at the Cambridge crossover), and also that the level-crossings have retained their settings and triggers. You'll also find some priority markers around Cambridge - these are to stop AI trains taking 'shortcuts' into the slow loops north of the station - you may need to reset these to the lowest priority.
My version of Cambridge is almost prototypical, but simplified in parts. The through platforms should be considered as 1 & 4 for northbound (down), and 7 & 8 for southbound (up). In reality, all the platforms are bi-directional. All other stations are Platform 1 for 'Up' (towards Cambridge), and Platform 2 for 'Down' (towards Huntingdon). The only exception is the fictional Chesterton Parkway, for which the branch-line platforms are 3 (up) & 4 (down). Trackmarks are provided, but all the stations should work with the 'Call At' session command (On DLS if you don't have it). Portals on the main-line through Cambridge will allow simulated running to/from London to the south, Ely to the north, and an east branch to Newmarket.
A suitable train is the FCC Class 313 3-car EMU, which is available on DLS. A half-hourly 'all stations' timetable in each direction would be sensible (and can just about be done with only 2 trains in service), but a peak-time 6tph 'Metro' service could be feasible.
This route was originally created for TRS2006, however it has been extensively upgraded and re-designed (through several subsequent versions of Trainz). It may use a lot of older content, but I've installed Trainz 12 from scratch and re-downloaded everything, so I can be sure that all assets are available on DLS. Unfortunately, I've still not had time (or patience) to fill up the baseboards with lots of surrounding scenery and buildings. There are parts of the route which are in some ways unfinished, but I hope the odd mistake or scenic gap won't spoil your enjoyment.
In reality, since the original version of this route, the guided-busway has finally opened (allowing public access to the majority of this route once more) and an island platform has been built at Cambridge (which was merely an artistic 'vision' in my original version). The station on the main-line at Chesterton is also now proposed. Feel free to extend or adapt as you wish, but please do not re-distribute. There is a topic on the Trainz forums relating to this layout, so contact me there if necessary. Your comments are welcome!
