BR Permit To Travel Ticket Machine
A standard generic British Rail PERTIS (PERmit to Travel ticket Issuing System) ticket machine which were instaled from the mid 1980s and still at the time of writing, continues to be used at a variety of stations where full ticket machines are either unavailable or used as back-up when the self service ticket machiens are not in use, vandalised, etc. Their 20 year career has seen more ups and downs, while the famous 5p PERTIS earns its place in history as the cheapest rail ticket money can buy (PERTIS are not a full ticket, but one you have to exchange at the first opportunity). This model is known as the AS-88 model, which is mounted on a pedestal and located in several locations around the country, this example being my local one, Fishbourne station on the Down side, the Up side lost its PERTIS machine from May 2011.
