BR Class 117 DMBS RR

Built in 1960 by Pressed Steel Ltd, these sets became the backbone of the Western Region Surburban services out of London Paddington for many years. These reliable units were used up until 1994, when Network SouthEast replaced them with a fleet of Class 165/6 Thames Turbos.

This all but replace the Class 117's, as they soon found work elsewhere. Apart from a few sets which hadescaped to Wales many years earlier, some 117s went north to Scotland, where they saw another 7 years of service; same with the three 'Counties Line' and 'Goblin' (Bedford - Blechley, and Gopel Oak - Barking Lines)'. Since these units have been replaced, a lot have found their way into preservation where they can still be found today.
This is a model of 51369, which was sadly cut up at Aylesbury depot in 2002. This was her final livery, that she wore.
