MN Pullman ACMU 1100

The last original New York Central equipment used in daily service was the Pullman-Standard ACMU (Air-Conditioned Multiple Unit), They were built for the 'Central' in 1956 and were similar in design to an order built for the Long Island Rail Road by Pullman-Standard.

Numbered in the 1100 series, these were true multiple-unit (MU) cars, as they could be operated as single units from either end. After almost 40 years of service, word came down that the fleet would be retired. The ACMUs were completely retired in 2004 being replaced by Bombardier's M-7's.
