GM EMD FL9

The General Motors EMD FL9 is a dual-power descendant of the dual service (freight and passenger) FP9. Built for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad; these locomotives can operate on 3rd rail DC power or as diesel electrics on non-electrified sections.

The car body gained several feet in length over it's predecessor in order to accommodate the extra electrical equipment and a large steam heating boiler. Due to the additional weight, a three-axle rear truck is fitted, resulting in the unusual B-A1A wheel arrangement.
