Duchy Days Sectors

A fictional BR route set in the 1980s of the South West corner of England.
The route runs for some 60 miles, through the moors, by the coast and into cities.
There are plenty of industries throughout the route with most being typical to this part of the world

The mainline (ex GWR) starts in the North West and heads South West through many towns, villages and and two cities. With the first stop at Burnbridge and the last at Longlair. The route follows what was the GWR mainline from end to end apart from one note worthy deviation.
With the closure of RAF Coombe in the late 60's it was decided the airfeild would become a regional airport for Exbridge. Also a new Parkway station was part of the plan, so a suitable site was located. The old bridge over the dam was becoming weak and unsuitable for heavy bi-directional traffic and the old tunnels were built pre GWR and thus not in a good state, so a decision to re-route the line from Rosgeggon with a faster line to serve the new station was made.

Also from the East comes what remains of the the old Southern line which heads into Wellsbury and the furthest out post of NSE, it then joins the (ex GWR) line in the city
Over the entire route you can trace what was part of the old Southern railway, some still in use, some cycle ways or it's just left abandoned.
There is also a section still in use as a heritage railway running from Newton Town to Marsh Moor. Heading East from Marsh Moor you can trace the line to the quarry, which runs on the old trackbed of the Southern , with the signs of a old spur that served RAF Chivington during the war. with the line rejoining the ex GWR mailnine at CossTor. The route from there is now a path heading towards Ludchurch site again the MOD trains still run on the old Southern route to access the main line.
Then in the heart of Wellsbury you can still see what remain of the old Southern terminus, with the station building now a community centre.
The Southern to the south west reveals itself after Newton Town on the Barston branch travelling through St Iddy, Tregullow, Coombe and Redbourne Valley Road, before joining the ex GWR for the run into Exbridge Central. Exbridge is where the Southern terminated, but all remains of the station are long gone which was located on the Sainsbury's supermarket site.

The heritage line runs entirely on the old Southern route and all of the stations have been restored to their former glory. The society also owns the station at Tor Valley Junction and have made it their ambition to have trains call there once again. Fund raising is well underway so work can be done to repair the tunnel at Marsh Mills and the viaduct near Carn Praze. An agreement has already been reached with ARC for trains to run on the quarry lines at weekends should they reach the funding required and the line reinstated

Many industies are sited along the route, with numerous china clay sites, there is the deep water dock at Penween which had competing lines running to it from both the GWR and Southern. Both companies had contracts to move clay from rival pits until it all fell under the ownership of English China Clay (ECC) both line are in use to this day to provide direct access to the dock from different pits

At Carn Tor there is a massive aggregates quarry operated by ARC the climb is steep to the main line, so wagons are often dropped at Wellsbury sidings while the remaining wagons are collected before heading 'up country'

There is also ...
Blue Circle cement works
Esso fuel depot
St Ivel dairies
Brewery
Ford car plants
MOD site
Scrap yard
Farm industries
and various goods yards
