QGR Bell Branch

The town of Bell, on the darling downs region in SE Qld. Was formerly served by a unique little Branchline where the 42lb rails were laid straight on to ground, 'ballasted' only with packed earth or ash.

The line carried wheat, sheep, cattle, passengers and general goods to the outside world. Due to the restricted loading gauge of 42lbs rails; Steph Valve Gear PB15's & in latter years after steam finished 60t 1170 'Paw Paw' (1600) class were regulars in Bell.

Unfortually the chapter in this unique litte line was written in 1992/93 when the line offically closed to all traffic and was latter dismatled. Many still morn that day.
Now a museum stands on the site of the Former Railway Station with a collection of Rolling Stock that generally worked the Bell Branch. Some residents are trying to rebuilt the line, but some will say its a 'Pipe Dream'
