LKAB IORE 106

During the 1990's the old Dm3's were outdated and the Swedish mining company LKAB began searching for an alternative to it. The successor need to be strong, very strong, its task was to pull over 8000 metric tons of iron ore on the famous Malmbanan (iron ore track). LKAB's transport company MTAB turned to Bombardier that desgined a locomotive specially for MTAB, the IORE. Production began in 2000 at the Bombardier/Adtranz factories in Switzerland and Germany and all the first 9 pairs were delivered between 2000 and 2004. The Iore consists of 2 units semi-permanently coupled (it's possible to use only one unit, but not common) to eachother. With a power of 2x5400 kW and a tractive effort of 2x700 kN the Iore is the most powerful electric locomotive in the world.
