BR Class 47/6 Enginespec 1976-79

Engine Spec for British Railways Class 47 47601, which was fitted with a 16-cylinder Ruston Paxman 16RK3CT engine of 3250hp in December 1975 to act as a testbed for British Rail's new class 56 heavy freight locomotive.

Rebuilt from class 47 47046 after a crash at Peterbrough in 1974, the locomotive retained it's original traction motors and gearing. This compromise resulted in the performance having to be modified after 6 months use in August 1976. 47601 ran in this modified condition until late 1979, when it was called to works to be re-engined again; this time with a Ruston Paxman 12-cylinder prime mover of 3300hp, for the forthcoming BR class 58 locomotive.

Notes for CAB driving: It is recommended that this enginespec is used in conjunction with my coach and wagon enginespecs for best performance.
