water tank, Long Island, NSWGR

The 20000g water tank and purifier near the southern portal of Long Island tunnel was installed in the early 1950s in conjunction with the opening of N0.2 Engine Siding.
The water crane of No.2 Engine Siding was too remote and upgrade from the Hawkesbury River water tanks, and so to provide a head of water for the crane, a new tank wank was required.
The inclusion of a water purifier suggests that the tank could be supplied from the same dam that supplied the 40000g tank at Hawkesbury River. Dam water may have have required pumping over the causeway that joins Brooklyn to Long Island.
