Tunnel bore and portals with double track, Boronia No4 tunnel, NSW
The 4th of 5 Boronia tunnels on Cowan Bank, NSW. It is 243ft long on an 11-chain curve and a gradient of 1 in 40 facing up trains.
The tunnel is modelled on its appearance in the steam era, before electrification works in 1959 gouged out brickwork from the portals and walls to give greater clearance for long double-deck EMU carriages.
The height difference between the north and south portals is 6ft (1.85m).
