NSW party-line railway telephone

A telephone manufactured in the early 20th century for use in signal boxes and station offices for communication over railway telegraph lines between signalling and traffic branch officers.
The communication channels were party lines, shared by clusters of destinations. The called party was indicated by a ringing pattern of short and long bursts generated by the caller using a winding handle on the side of the phone cabinet.
Since the model is intended for indoor use only, it is only visible when viewed within several tens of metres. At night, the phone appears illuminated by artificial lighting.
