Ardglen station main platform, NSWGR

Ardglen in the 1950s was a station on the Main North line of NSWGR located immediately north of the summit of the single-track, 1-in-40 climbs from both the Down and Up directions to cross the Liverpool Range.
Most goods trains were banked by assisting locos from Murrurundi in the Down and Willow Tree in the Up direction. As well as handling the miniature electric staff safeworking, the signalman at Ardglen had to manage the return of banking locos to Murrurundi and Willow Tree.
This model is of the station's main platform, platform buildings (including the signal box) and the off-platform gent's toilet and lamp room. The platform was on a 1 in 40 grade facing Up trains, so the model cannot be used on flat ground. The model is an interactive station asset to capture the light passenger traffic generated by the surrounding village.
Prior to November 1940, Ardglen was worked as a Down and Up passing station and offset Down and Up platforms were provided. With the changeover to Main and Loop working, the Up platform became the Main platform, and all passenger trains were directed to it. The Down platform, while still existing through the 1950s, fell into disuse. A non-interactive model of the down platform is provided by <kuid:84609:30027> 'Ardglen_Down_Platform'.
