Guided metal rods joined lengthwise in runs of up to several hundred metres, as used by NSWGR to transfer the action of a remote lever to the switch rails of a point (turnout).
Multiple rods headed in the same direction were commonly clustered laterally through common guide locations. Adjacent rod guides interlocked together. In this case there is only one rod in the run.
