48' Bethgon coal porter - BNSF

Coal hauling has become a very significant revenue generator for American railroads. Whether these cars are railroad or utility owned, mile-long 110 car unit-trains can be seen on all major lines. Older coal cars are being rebuilt and newer, lighter aluminum cars are being added each month. These 48' Modern Unit-Train Coal Gondolas are manufactured by Johnstown-America Corporation (formerly Bethlehem Steel Car Company) under the trade name Coalporter®. Production started in 1982 and these cars are still being manufactured today.
