MR/LMS ex- LTSR Class 79 4-4-2T (1912-1928)

The 79 class was the final development of the London Tilbury and Southend Railway 4-4-2T; a batch of four were built to the design of Thomas Whitelegg. The design was modified by the Midland Railway after they took over the line in 1912, and the LMS built another 35 engines between 1923 and 1930. The engines were eventually displaced by Stanier 2-6-4Ts and were relocated to the East Midlands where they continued to work until the 1950s and 1960s.
