kkStB Gölsdorf 310.23 - Museumslok

The Gölsdorf 310, developed from the earlier 210, was an express passenger locomotive designed to haul heavy trains across the mountainous routes of Austria. The unusual 2-6-4 wheel arrangement meant weight could be kept down whilst maintaining a large firebox to burn poor quality coal. First built in 1911, they remained in service until the 1950s. As well as domeostic express trains they were also used on the Orient Express. Two locomotives have survived: one in the technical museum at Prague and another in operating condition at the Heizhaus Museum at Strasshof outside Vienna.
