Victorian Railways R Class 0-6-0 Main Line Goods Locomotive comprised a group of 56 engines destined for mainline goods traffic. The Pattern engine was built by Beyer & Peacock Engineering England and given road number 151 (builder's no.3683) and where called 'Beyer's Design' to distinguish them from the Belgian Design which later became R Class in 1886. In 1890 the class was re-looked at from it's design and the activities of the class became branchline goods traffic as the light axle loading of 11tons and 16cwt allowed their use on the light lines. These locomotives were fitted with two inside cylinders, 17in x 24in, the slide valves being actuated by Stephenson's valve gear. Each of the six coupled driving wheels measured 4ft 6in, the boiler had a total heating surface of 1074.11 sq ft, of which the tubes contributed 997.18 sq ft. The firebox of 76.93 sq ft had a fire grate area of 16.5 sq ft. The working boiler pressure was 130lbs, which gave a tractive effort of 12,884lbs at 80% Boiler Pressure and the axles oddly spaced at 7ft 0in and 6ft 6in. Cast-iron sandboxes were mounted on the running plates adjacent to the smokebox and incorporated the leading splashers. From 1894 most where re-boilered to 140 PSI and from 1896 through to 1911 the entire class had been converted to larger cylinders of 17.5 inches along with some recieving standard E Class 150 PSI boilers from 1905 increasing Tractive to 16,333lbs earning them their rightful names as Bull Dogs.

This model represents the Beyer & Peacock fitted with 17 inch cylinders, 140 PSI Boiler Pressure, screwlink couplers, westinghouse equipment and painted in Canadian Red from 1907.
