VR D Class E-spec - 3 (TS09)

Victorian Railways D Class 4-4-0 Locomotive was built by Kitson & Co 1887 and Phoenix Foundry 1888.

From 1905 onwards the Class was reboilered with the new high pressure Y Class boiler rated at 175 PSI, due to these locomotives being low adhesion and where known for being extremely slippery 3 tons of steel was added under the cab to provide more adhesion, the boiler pressure was also reduced to 160 Pounds Per Square Inch to try and minimize slipping, from 1920s the completion of the light lines mixed traffic DD Class caused these locomotives to be moved to shunting duties, and some where withdrawn by 1924, 3 locomotives lasted on the VR register till 1930 then where sold off to private railways, in 1950 these locomotives where once again in the hands of the VR and where officially withdrawn and scrapped in 1952.

This e-spec is for the D Class that had the 3ton steel plate added for more adhesion, driving-wheel-weight has also been adjusted.
