VR No. 42 - 1860+

An ex-Geelong & Melbourne Railway Company 2-2-2 Well Tank Passenger Locomotive was sold to the Victorian Railways in 1860, not much is known about them besides some paintings and information in old books, this engine could either be Sirocco/Typhoon or even Cyclone/Hurricane, their is even disputes about the driving wheel diameter, one book says their all 6ft 6in like the two shunting engines Oberon and Titania, the Geelong Advertiser dated 1916 says the wheels are either 7ft 0in or 7ft 6in, I estimated based on a painting that they're 7ft 0in, another source says they have 2 fireboxes, one on the left and one on the right, when both are fired will look like a single firebox, the locomotive is rated about 500 horse power and can reach speeds of at least 55mph, as the Geelong Line is mostly flat with a few short grades from around 1in81 to 1in100 these engines where perfect, one book indicates in really bad weather they slip and can't be started without a push (quite possibly the train was over weight).

In 1861 they still worked the Geelong Line until new 2-2-2 Tender Engines took over, Sirocco was sent to Echuca for shunting, the other engines worked Essendon Suburban Lines, they ended their days converted for driving in the Murray River boats.
