PN RQFY - 2005+

In 1975 and in 1976 a new design of container wagon was built similar to the FQX/FQF and was coded QMX, only difference is it was built to a skeleton design and had less depth in the frames to reduce tare weight making the wagon lighter, the reason being is the maximum weight on the Broad Guage is 76 tonnes which is an axle load of almost 19 tonnes, so the heavier the tare weight is the less load it can carry, the FQX/FQF wagons are almost 23 tonnes and can carry 51 tonnes by making the QMX lighter it can carry 57 tonnes. In 1980 an additional Seventy Five VQFX (QMX) Wagons where built and numbered 61 to 135, five years later they where recoded to VQFY (probably to remove them as bogie exchange and to indicate 100km/h running), in 1994 they where given to National Rail Corparation and recoded RQFY with some on the Broad Guage between Melbourne and Adelaide and some on the Standard Guage between Melbourne and Sydney, in 1995 Seventy Nine where recoded to RQFF and put on the Standard Guage as the Standard Guage line between Melbourne and Adelaide via Geelong and Cressy had been completed, These vehicles remained the property of Victoria so they kept there original VR numbers and paint. As NRC was buying there own wagons these where handed back to V/Line over the years. From 1995 V/Line was split into V/Line Pass and V/Line Freight ready for privatization, in 1999 V/Line Freight was sold to a USA Company and became Freight Victoria, then changed there name to Freight Australia in 2000 and aquired National Rail Corparation later on, in 2004 they where baught out by Pacific National which was a private Freight opperator around New South Wales and expanded to all states of Australia, the VQFX and RQFF where recoded to RQFY and now run in all states on the Standard Guage.
