PH&D Railroad Modern

The Port Huron and Detroit Railroad was a family owned shortline in Michigan until sold to Chessie System in 1985. This line was 19 miles long and interchanged with two class one railroads during its history. Grand Trunk Western Railroad and Pere Marquette Railroad both shared important interchanges with this little railroad.

The PH&D route was created using Google Earth, line track maps, first hand route observations, employee interviews, and actual route photos along the right-of-way to get the track as accurate as possibe. Some artistic license has been used here and there and some distances may differ slightly on track span and location. Most of this route is as accurate as it can be done with out using a DEM or TIGER Map. Grades, rivers, bridges are all where they should be.

Today the PH&D is only about 14 miles long and is now operated as the PH&D Industrial Track by CSX. Coal, auto parts, petrochemicals, plastics, grain, and ethanol make up the shipments today. CSX also added a new yard in St. Clair, MI after selling the former Pere Marquette Boat Yard to developers in 2005.

More info can be found at my other website for Michigan Trainz Routes on the web. If you like this route, please consider supporting the Port Huron and Detroit Historical Society at http://phdrailroad.com/ by joining as a member or a donation.
