The Loops
Appalachian mountain railroading at it's best, especially for you Norfolk Southern fans! This is Norfolk Southern's Appalachian crossing from Old Fort, North Carolina to Black Mountain, North Carolina in the heart of the Great Smokies of the United States and done mostly from DEM's and USGS maps. This route was originally part of the Southern Railroad. The route was described in some detail in the September 2006 issue of Trains magazine. Thank you to the many third party creators who make routes like this one possible. This layout is a greatly updated and enhanced version of the original August 2007 layout of the same name by George Fisher (AKA gfisher) and with his permission. My thanks to the original author for allowing me to do this! Lots of scenery and attention to detail so this layout will require a computer with very good graphics handling capability. To provide comments and feedback on the layout, visit the official Loops support thread on the Auran Forums at: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?70070-The-Official-Loops-TRS2010-thread-(with-screenshots). Setting is 1980s or later and rail operations takes place in late fall where many of the trees have lost their leaves.
