Clear Lake 37-2 Shay

This is a narrow gauge Class 37-2 Shay locomotive built in 1904 by the Lima Locomotive Works. This version has been weathered and renamed for the Clear Lake Railroad created by Rich Blake.

Clear Lake started out with a couple Climax locos in 1895. After these wore out around 1920, owner BR Lewis went out to order some new locomotives. He visited some other railways to inspect their equipment. In the Rockies, the Uintah 37-2 Shay certainly impressed the logging tycoon so he ordered an identical version to work the woods around Skagit Valley and the Cascade foothills. Sturdy and powerful, this little Shay worked the woods until 1937 when the line finally went bankrupt.
