In order to improve the performance and increase speed many E locomotives were provided with a trailing axle. Furthermore, the framework was extended and the boiler was moved forward somewhat. Maximum speed was set to 70 kph. Totally 90 locomotives of the E type were rebuilt to type E2. This reconstruction was done during the years 1935-1951. The locomotives were in service until 1972.
Today there are many left making their duty as museum locos both in Sweden and abroad.
Modelled loco, E2 1122 was built 1912 and is preserved in a Swedish railway museum.


För att förbättra gångegenskaperna och höja hastigheten så kompletterades E loket med en löpaxel. Dessutom förlängdes ramverket liksom att pannan flyttades fram lite. Max hastigheten sattes till 70 km/tim. Sammanlagt byggdes 90 E lok om till typ E2. Ombyggnaderna skedde under åren 1935-1951. Loken tjästgjorde fram till 1972.
Idag finns många kvar som museilok både i Sverige och utomlands.
Modellerade E2 1122 finns att beses på ett järvägsmuseum i Sverige.
