CSD T679.1.600 PJ.Cheb

Ceskoslovenske Statni Drahy was one of the primary owners of M62 class locomotives in the former eastern block. All together 627 locomotives of this class were imported from Lugansk factory between March 1966 and April 1977. They were meant to be the primary power for freight trains in former CSSR, becoming the most numerous class in the country. Although their primary role - replacing steam locomotives in freight service - was done superbly, they appeared to be fuel inefficient, noisy and to heavy to operate on many Czech railway lines. Intensive electrification and additional T478.1 or T478.3 diesel locomotives were the cause for T679.1 to loose work in the 1980s and 1990s. A great number was removed from service between 1989 and 1992, only several survived for some more years in Cheb, Chomutov, Leopoldov, Letohrad and Zvolen depots, finally completly removed from service in 2002. This model represents T679.1 600 diesel from Cheb depot in the paintscheme found around 1970.
