SD40-2 Chessie B&O 7614

Chessie owned 20 SD40-2's (7600-7619), all purchased through B&O. They were largely assigned to the B&O lines west of Baltimore, MD through Cumberland, up Sand Patch toward Pittsburgh and across the famous West End Sub to Grafton, WV. They were popular as pushers, on mine runs, coal drags, hotshots, and general freight.. The SD40 can be said to have been the mainstay of the rail systems through the 70s and 80s, good pulling power with reliabile maintenance cycles.
