PL Corn Milling

A ProtoLars 10m TRACK - can be configured to produce/consume 17 products derived from corn milling. For every five bushels sold, corn processors buy one bushel to process in to corn syrups, sweeteners, starches, oils, ethanol and animal feeds. These products in turn become the building blocks of thousands of other food and industrial products distributed throughout the world. Eighty percent of all corn grown in the US is fed to livestock, poultry and fish.
There are two distinct processes for processing corn, wet-milling and dry-milling and each process generates unique co-products.
Establishments in corn wet milling are engaged primarily in producing starch, syrup, oil, sugar, and byproducts such as gluten feed and meal, from wet milling of corn and sorghum. These facilities may also produce starch from other vegetables and grains, such as potatoes and wheat. In the dry milling industry, the feed product(s) that are produced are distillers grains, distillers grains + solubles, and distillers solubles. Depending on the plant and whether it is producing wet or dry feed, the relative amounts of distillers grains and distillers solubles mixed together varies. Both milling processes will produce ethanol, with dry milling the cheaper and perfered method. See the included corn_milling.jpg the flow chart.
