Caboose Transfer Conrail N-9 #

A repaint of just one of the scemes that PC used for majekears Chicken Neck Foundry presents a transfer caboose. The Penn Central N-9 type construction overlapped the NYC/PRR merger. They were built from old 40 foot boxcars. The N-9E type had a 6 volt electrial system hence the E notation. These transfer cabooses looks more like a flat car with a shed or cabin bolted to the middle of it than it does a standard caboose. They were used in transfer service between rail yards or short switching runs, and as such, lacks sleeping, cooking or restroom facilities. The ends of a transfer caboose are left open, with safety railings surrounding the area between the crew compartment and the end of the car. The car has automatic assigned running numbers and animated brake hoses with sound. Also loads a limited number of produce crates or oil barrels.
