SE Ireland P1 1935

Its 1935 in the South East of Ireland and alot has changed since 1908 as a new HEP Plant has been built at Ardnacrusha providing electricity for the whole country and Sugar Factorys have been built in Carlow, Thurles and Mallow and now there is a huge rail traffic for the sugar beet season. Also Ireland has been through the Wars, First there was World War I where many irishmen were sent to the trenches and the USAF set up Sea Plane Bases around Ireland including one at Wexford Harbour, during World War I in 1916 there was a rebellion by Irish Leaders to fight for a Republic against the British who had power over Ireland at the time, The Rebellion was based all around Dublin but there was also a rebellion in Enniscorthy as they had seized Enniscorthy Castle, The Dublin Rebellion failed as British troops arrived from all over Ireland and Britain and a British Navy Gunship shelled Dublin City and so to stop the loss of life they surrendered and the Leaders were arrested however the Enniscorthy Rebellion continued and when they heard that it was over in Dublin they sent a messenger under British escort to Dublin to get Padraig Pearse the Leader of the 1916 Rebellion to sign permission to surrender. Padraig Pearse and the other Leaders were executed by Firing Squad except Eamonn De Valera as an american he had been saved as the Britsh didn't want to lose America in the War against Germany. The execution angered everyone in Ireland and people joined the Irish Republican Army set up by Michael Collins, a survivor of the 1916 Rebellion. The army known as the IRA used guerrilla tactics against British troops in what was now the War of Independance, they hit the British so hard they had to bring back troops from the trenches to fight in Ireland(due to lack of uniform availible they wore half Army uniform and half Police uniform giving them the name Black and Tans), David Loyld George the Priminister of Britain gave them permission do all that was necessary to end the War in Ireland, as the IRA were beating the British Badly the Black and Tans got revenge by burning down family homes of those involved with suspicious activities(including playing irish sports), The Railways of Ireland were also getting annoyed as the Black and Tans used the railways to get around and often beat up Irish Railway Staff if they didn't co-operate. Eventually the British Priminister gave in and offered Ireland a Peace Treaty which offered Ireland their own Government and that British Troops would leave Ireland However Ireland would lose six counties of Ulster to become part of Britain's Northern Ireland, Ireland would also lose three ports to the British Navy to ensure Britains protection in Europe in the future and that Ireland would be called the Irish Free State and remain a Commonwealth Country and not a Republic, Michael Collins agreed to the Treaty beleiving it was better than nothing. The IRA then split and took two sides, either to continue fighting for a Republic with Eamonn De Valera or accept that this was the best the British could give and pehaps gain more control in the future with Michael Collins, This resulted in the Irish Civil War. Michael Collins led the Pro-Treaty Troops against Eamonn De Valera's Anti-Treaty Troops. The Anti-Treaty were responsible for burning luxury houses that were inhabited by British Loyalists and then started alot of fighting in Dublin and then led to the countryside where Anti-Treaty often sabotaged irish railways as the Pro-Treaty used them to get around. Four trains were derailed at Killurin, Six trains destroyed outside Palace East, One train destoyed at Sparrowsland and north of Enniscorthy, Signal Boxes were destroyed and later rebuilt at Enniscorthy, Macmine Junction, Palace East and Waterford, Taylorstown Viaduct was also destroyed but later rebuilt. The amount of damage on all the railways left them financially in trouble after the Civil War came to the end when the Pro-Treaty won despite Michael Collins being killed in an ambush. So the newly formed Government helped all the railways by nationalising
