M10k rpo-loco
Union Pacific orderd the M10000 from Pullman on May 23, 1933 it was deliverd on February 12. This was the first streamliner to run in the U.S. it was a three car articulated self-propelled train. Power was to be a Diesel was planed but not ready in time so a 900 hp 12 cylinder distillate spark-ignited engine was used. The three car train weighed 85 tons about the same as one heavyweight car of the time. It did a 13,000 mile twenty-two-state tour and then was displayed at the Chicago Worlds Fare it then in 1935 it entered regular service as the City of Salina until late 1941 when after 900,000 miles the engine gave out and the train was scrapet for the War(WWII). This is the power/RPO/Baggage car and had the air conditioning and heating systems.
