NYC Passenger E8 4053

Josh Harvey's E8 reskinned by American Locomotive and Car Company for New York Central Systems passenger trains.
Between 1951 and 1953 the NYC purchased 60 of these engines, but no 'B' units. They were usually ran in A-A combos, or teamed with E7 B units. This particular unit, built in 1952, was one of 3 units to receive the NYC's experimental 'Mercury Green' paint scheme in the early 60's. These 2,250 horsepower units ultimately outlived the NYC itself, and its sucessor, Penn Central. Many were still active in the early years of Amtrak.
